Abby's Music Studio
I am an avid musician and taught flute and beginning piano lessons for 3.5 years! I spent my first 1.5 years teaching at the School of Music at Hill Productions as an Apprentice Instructor under my own instructor from high school, Diana Upton-Hill. Following the closure of the School of Music in April 2018, I operated my own studio for 2 years and rented teaching space at a local church. I taught an average of eight students weekly who ranged in age from 4 to 18, including a few students with autism diagnoses and learning disabilities. In addition, my students came from varying socioeconomic and religious backgrounds. I even had the opportunity to work with 5 children from Conservative Mennonite families.
As a music teacher, my ultimate goal was to ensure that all my students could learn to the best of their potential. All lesson plans were tailored to meet each student's developmental, psychosocial, and learning needs, and I strived to make my studio a positive and fun learning environment.
I truly feel teaching helped me enhance my knowledge of typical growth and development, and provided me with the opportunity to build rapport with children and families of diverse backgrounds. I hope the videos below provide you with a glimse into my interactions with children!
